New Braunfels Flood 2010

June 9, 2010 will be a day that all New Braunfels citizens will remember.  At around 4:00 AM Trevor and I were awakened by the extremely violent sounds of thunder, lightening, and the down-pour of rain.  After we couldn't go back to sleep, we knew something was different with this rain storm.  I finally rolled out of bed around 7:30 and got ready for work.  Then the electricity went out.... no fixing my hair today!  It wasn't until I went outside to get in my car that I realized the garage door wouldn't open.  My car was trapped inside!  I couldn't necessarily use that excuse to get out of work since Trevor parked in the front of the house that night before...bummer!

So, Trevor drove me to work in the middle of the storm and what we saw on the way was unbelievable.  We saw one car crash and numerous cars stranded on the side of the road; many cars had been flooded by the water.

New Braunfels received over 12 inches of rain in a matter of a few hours.  We can thank God that only one life was lost, and dozens were rescued from the raging waters.  May God bless the family of the lost individual.

Trevor and I are so thankful that our home wasn't affected by the flash flood, however right down the street in Gruene (literally, steps away) the flood was at it's worst and really hit the river outfitters' hard.  Our good friends, the Rivers family, lost their main toobing location, many of their buses were destroyed, toobs taken away by the water, and their T-shirt shop completely wiped out.  Trevor went down to help them clean up after it all happened and these are some of the pictures from what used to be Rockin' R River Rides.

Although the flood was a devastation, the Rivers' have been through floods before; the last one being in '98.  They will recover and come back stronger than ever!  Thanks to God for protecting our community and for the many lives saved.
